LALA LUNCHBOX & BREAKFAST
Meet LaLa Lunchbox & breakfast
LaLa Lunchbox is the best-selling meal planning app for kids and parents. The app takes the stress out of lunch planning for families and empowers kids with their meal decisions. Kids select foods for their meals with fun monsters, colors, and sounds, and those choices turn into a handy grocery list for parents!
The New York Times
LaLa Lunchbox has two distinct groups that use the app simultaneously - parents and children. Parents manage children’s accounts, food items and browse through a grocery list. Children use the central part of the app, the lunchbox, to prepare their meals for the week.
The former part had to be efficient and organized. The latter had to be fun and engaging like a game. Those two requirements are not easily mixed, so we spent endless hours sketching.
The path between the initial idea and a finished product has been long and winding, as we iterated through numerous concepts and screens.
In the concept phase we involved heavily with the development team, as they checked the technical feasibility and prototyped some new ideas and animations.
Designing for grown-ups and children at the same time is not an easy task, so we followed a clear and consistent user interface, with tiny fun details - colors, animations and sounds.
Monsters were the sugar on top - we designed and gave birth to each one of them, showcasing their distinct personality. Meet Cassidy, Dino, Eva and the others!
We enjoyed implementing custom scrolls, fiddling with inertia, and doing numerous tiny tweaks to achieve the best possible user experience.
TRIVIA: About 50% of the total time spent was on concept and design, before the first line of production code was written.
Some of the cool features our development team is proud of:
- One click lunchbox sync between multiple iOS devices - transparent & simply works
- Fully customizable library of fruits, veggies, proteins & snacks
- Parental control over food choices and lunchbox sizes
- Sharing favorite meals with friends via Twitter, Facebook and e-mail
Our quality assurance team started tracking bugs and testing edge cases since the first build arrived, ultimately helping us to launch as initially planned, according to schedule. The app has since received numerous awards and recognitions, and continues to evolve maintaining 5-star reviews on the App Store.
